The Ellison Center for the Arts,
a renovated church with a three-floor addition is run by the
South Shore Conservatory in Hingham. In cooperation with the
Duxbury Art Association. The Ellison Center now offers classes
in all the arts for all ages. Both campuses Hingham and Duxbury,
continue to be the sole source of quality education in music
for the 31 towns south of Boston.
1,600 students participate in the Conservatory program, which
offers individual lessons in all instruments including voice,
an arts-based pre-school, a variety of ensemble opportunities
in chamber, jazz, rock, wind, choral and percussion, and recital
and concert opportunities. Through collaborations, changing exhibitions
by regional artists are featured throughout the year. A recent
collaboration with Jose Mateo's Ballet Theatre of Boston will
allow the Conservatory to offer a complete ballet program for
all ages at its Duxbury campus. The outreach program reaches
an additional 650 students in 7 schools plus the South Shore
Charter School with music and drama programs they would otherwise
be unable to provide. The Conservatory is in the process of installing
a complete sound technology system in the concert hall and 7
studios at the Ellison Center for recordings by professional
musicians and students.
